There was also an old one room schoolhouse that was used for the local black children and a church. They girls weren't too excited about any of that. It was just another room to them. ::hehe:: There was a piano in the church which they enjoyed when the bigger kids make sounds. After those three exhibits you start out of the zoo trail. It cuts through the forest and over and around some swampland and beside a lake. It was just beautiful. One of the first animals we saw was some wild turkeys. They were making all sorts of racket *gobble gobble gobble* and H1 thought they were pretty neat. H2 could take them or leave them.
Right beside the turkey area was a lone white tail deer foraging around for some greenery. He was a little guy! H2 was definitely more interested in the deer than the turkeys. They just sat there and watched him with big wide eyes. It makes me wonder what they were thinking. Of course as soon as I pulled the camera out and snapped the picture neither one was looking directly at the deer.
There were quite a number of different animals and a lot were hard to photograph and for the girls to see. They didn't understand to look up for the eagle or owls and if an animal was smaller and wasn't moving, like the bobcat, they didn't really see it. They did however see the bear. There were two and they were huge! I always call H1 my "little bear" so it was only fitting that she be excited to see them.
Their absolute favorite animal was the wolves. I think they liked them so much because they look so similar to our German Shepard whom they are used to seeing. They were also walking around quite a big so it makes it easier for them to see.
They just loved going and I can tell it will be a place that we go quite a bit as they get older. Just as long as they don't want to stop at the alligator exhibit!
